Did you know that May 21 is Chardonnay Day? I had no idea but what a perfect excuse for a little get together with friends right?! I’d been wanting to try the NEW Notable Chardonnay (they have an Australian and a California variety). I noticed them because they are 1st and only wine that highlights the flavor profiles on the front of the bottle which caught my eye as I was browsing the wine aisle. Wines definitely vary in style, region, and taste, so when I saw the how the Notable labels showcased its taste on the front label, it caught my attention. That and the term “flavor notes” as it related to the music note on the bottle.
I picked up both the Notable: California Chardonnay with notes of butter, oak and vanilla, as well as the Notable: Australia Chardonnay with notes of citrus, melon and peach. The label also sparked an idea for a little wine tasting party I could put together for friends that included just a bit of crafting from me – music notes!
How to make a music note themed centerpiece
Before I prepped for the party I wanted to make a centerpiece for the cocktail table. I’d already decided that I wanted to lounge around the cocktail/coffee table instead of the dining table to make it a little more relaxed! For the centerpiece I wanted to use a long wooden planter that we threw together with scraps of wood in the garage! Just attach with whatever tools you have available to you. Since it’s a little rustic I didn’t mind the ends and edges being rough. You can see that edge piece is literally just a little block that we trimmed down.
Next put foam from the craft store inside. If you cut it close enough to the size of the inside you can adjust the height and it will stay put.
I used a sheet of artificial greenery I had and cut it to size to fill the planter.
Then I made some flowers out of sheet music paper! I have a cutting machine but use whatever tools you have available. Basically you just cut out the same flower shape at slightly different sizes from larger to smaller.
Then you roll up the petals a bit and stack adhering with glue.
I placed my flowers throughout the artificial greenery and it was complete! I placed it on the cocktail table and set up the living room the day before. I made sure I had plenty of cushions on the sofa as well as on the floor around the table to relax and enjoy!
Besides some olives (castelvetrano are my new favorites), pickled okra and strawberries I wanted to make just a few appetizers to enjoy with our wine so I made both deconstructed beet napoleon and a fig prosciutto cracker.
Deconstructed Beet Napoleon
I don’t know if this is technically a deconstructed dish but it’s what it feels like to me so that’s what I’m going with! You can roast the beets yourself or you can now pick them up in store already roasted to make your life easier! Use a cookie cutter to cut out perfect circles or if you don’t care as much like me, just cut the beets into slices (be careful because beet juice can stain).
Layer the slices with a bit of gournay or goat cheese that’s mixed with garlic and herbs (you can also mix your own).
Once you’ve filled up your tray, sprinkle some nuts like pistachios or walnut over the top with some fresh chopped parsley, basil or chives.
Fig Prosciutto Crackers
If you have a store-bought fig jam that works too but I love to just use dried figs and blend them up in the food processor for a quick and less sweet version.
Spread your fig jam or processed figs on a rice cracker and layer with prosciutto and a small slice of brie.
Place honey on the table for your guests to drizzle over if they want a little touch of added sweetness.
Setting the Cocktail Table
Just before guests arrive you can prep the table. I used a table cloth so that no one had to worry about spilling on the table.
A bread board is always a great choice for the food. You can keep it all ready to go and then just carry out the bread board with snacks once everyone is ready to enjoy.
Keep your Notable Chardonnay on ice or refrigerated so it’s the perfect temp when you’re ready to serve.
I made some printable wine tasting note cards so that we could compare our notes with the labels and with each other. This helps everyone figure out what exactly they like in a wine!
Since everything was prepped beforehand you can relax and enjoy the wine, food and friends.
Notable Chardonnay is an awesome choice for any get together because if you’re not serving/suggesting drinks to friends, they can see right on the label what they’re going to get. I love that! Check out more Notables inspiration on their Facebook and Instagram!
