Easy DIY stenciled pillow from All for the Memories

I’m all about easy DIY projects and this one is just that. I got a chance to try out some of the new Silhouette fabric ink from Studio Calico. I’ve been wanting a deer silhouette pillow so I figured this was the perfect time to make one!

I used freezer paper as a stencil material and cut out this deer on my Silhouette Portrait. (The deer cut is a sneak at one of the cut files also available tomorrow at Studio Calico)

Cut the freezer paper waxy side down. I used the cut settings Speed 3, Thickness 10, Blade 1

I bought a plain pillow with removable cover but if you’re handy enough to make your own cover you can do that too. IKEA carries just pillow covers as well. Place a piece of cardboard inside to protect the other side.

Iron the freezer paper onto the fabric waxy side down with the steam setting turned OFF.

I like to use these foam dabber brushes on stenciled projects because it allows you to dab (not brush) the paint on for a much cleaner line.

Apply ink only in a dabbing motion

Once dry, carefully remove the freezer paper – it will come off pretty easily!

Dry iron over the paint to “set” again making sure the steam setting is OFF. That’s it! If you don’t have a die cutting machine you can print and trim your design with a craft knife.

Be careful though, it’s addicting! Now what to stencil next…

  3. Cute idea! I’ve been meaning to do something like this. Do you know if the paint will come off if I wash the pillow cover?

As long as you set it (iron over it once it’s dry) it washes up great!
