Watching the Suns games with friends or just looking for a fun festive drink to celebrate? These layered drinks are perfect to sip while cheering on the Suns in the NBA Finals this week. There is both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic version.

Phoenix Suns Inspired Drinks – Cocktail & Mocktail

I haven’t been this excited to watch the Suns play since the early 90’s when I was doodling the logo in my Lisa Frank notebooks at school (and when many of the players weren’t even born yet but we won’t go there). These purple and orange drinks are the perfect addition to your watch party or to surprise the family before the game.

Phoenix Suns Inspired Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz orange juice (fresh squeezed or from the bottle/carton)
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz vanilla syrup
  • 2 oz Empress 1908 gin (this is where that gorgeous color comes from)
  • ice
  • orange for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in orange juice, lemon juice, and vanilla syrup.
  2. Shake and pour over ice into a cocktail glass.
  3. Slowly pour gin on top.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice.
  5. Stir before enjoying.

Phoenix Suns Inspired Mocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz orange juice (fresh squeezed or from the bottle/carton)
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz vanilla syrup
  • 2 oz low sugar purple sports drink OR water enhancer mixed into club soda – the key here is to make sure it will be lower in sugar than the orange juice/lemon juice/vanilla syrup
  • ice
  • orange for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in orange juice, lemon juice, and vanilla syrup.
  2. Shake and pour over ice into a cocktail glass.
  3. Slowly pour sports drink or club soda with water enhancer on top. You can add a squirt of water enhancer at the end to help the color as well if needed.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice.

Wow, this beverage looks super refreshing. Wish I would have come across this post before our family had a Phoenix Suns watch party. It is nice to see you put a mocktail option, as the kids would have enjoyed participating in the fun. Who are we kidding the kids entertainment would have come more from the fun drink than the basketball game! I also really like the glass that each drink is in, do you know where they are from?

There’s always next year! 😉 The cocktail is in a glass from CB2 that they no longer carry unfortunately & the mocktail is a double old fashioned glass from Crate and Barrel. My 2 favorite stores to shop for good glassware!

True, always next year! Still a fun beverage to enjoy with friends and family. Thank you for the glassware information. Cheers!

  3. I tried making this and it didn’t separate and came out super muddy. Any tips??

The cocktail or the mocktail? Were you using any sugar free ingredients?
