I love gifts of time and experiences but I love a good DIY too. This year for Mother’s Day I thought a little lunch out (or at home) would be fun but I wanted to spice it up a bit with a \ little craft inspired by my most favorite fruit. Making a pineapple into a vase couldn’t be easier (especially if you skip the spray painting) and if mom loves pineapple, making her some chocolate covered pineapple will just send this Mother’s Day gift idea over the top!
Mother’s Day is sneaking up on us so little crafts like this are perfect to plan or to pull together last minute. If you take the time to write a little note in a card I know Mom will love it! It always starts with a card doesn’t it?! Since I loved the Hallmark Signature card for Valentine’s Day I went straight to that section in the card aisle at Walmart to find a new one for Mother’s Day.
Walmart carries an awesome collection of NEW Hallmark Signature cards for Mother’s Day. It’s a line of premium, handcrafted greeting cards that looks like you could have made it yourself and they have some REALLY cute ones! I always have a hard time picking my favorite. You can even earn $1.00 with this Ibotta offer.
I ended up choosing this wooden cut out tree that has little cut outs inside for this gift. I just loved the design and am kind of hoping Mom will let me use it for a craft project after she’s done enjoying it!
Once the hard part of picking out a card is done, you can work on making your pineapple vase. First, cut off the top of the pineapple.
Clean out the inside and dry it as much as you can. Those new pineapple coring/slicing tools are perfect for this!
If you want, you can spray paint the pineapple! Leaving it as is works too.
Place a small plastic cup or bowl inside to hold water.
Arrange flowers and add a few clippings from the top of the pineapple.
That’s it! So easy right?!
To make chocolate covered pineapple take the pineapple from the inside and cut the rings in half. Lay them out on a paper towel and pat dry.
Place semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips in a microwave safe cup and melt the chocolate in 10 second intervals (stirring in between) until it’s all melted.
Dip the pineapple and place them on wax or parchment paper. Put them in the fridge or freezer to harden.
Display your chocolate covered pineapple in a fun container or wrap up in a box.
Now you have the perfect pineapple themed Mother’s Day gift and centerpiece to put out for lunch or dinner!
