I don’t know why but I’ve never felt like I was an artist. Maybe because I don’t live in a loft in New York? Maybe because I don’t have bright green pants? Maybe because I don’t own a beret? Maybe because I’ve never seriously taken a brush to canvas? Whatever the reason I’ve never been able to say “I am an artist”. I was using watercolors last night and talking to Jared about something of mine getting published and I asked him if I could call myself a publish crafter? scrapbooker? decorator? and then at 2am when I was still awake I thought “I am a published artist”.

art·ist/ˈärtist/

Noun:
  1. A person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby.
  2. A person who practices any of the various creative arts, such as a sculptor, novelist, poet, or filmmaker.
Maybe that’s why I’ve always thought that a person who produces paintings or drawings was an artist but you know what. Photographers are artists, scrapbookers are artists, my boys are artists, I am an artist. I like it!

Then I realized I have several deadlines I need to meet – I am a procrastinating artist.
