My 2016 Year In Review album is DONE and it might have been the easiest year in review album I’ve finished yet! I was so excited when Mixbook asked if I’d partner with them to create my own year in review album. I’ve always been a fan of book bound year in review albums but I wanted to add a little spin on this one so I created a hybrid book bound album by combining the album with some traditional scrapbook elements like stamps, alpha stickers and other little elements.

I have been following Mixbook online but hadn’t ordered from them yet. I am definitely familiar with ordering book bound albums online though as I’ve ordered many over the years (my boys love them). They create gorgeous photo books, cards, calendars, prints and home decor. They also have some awesome book templates.

I went with the Minimalist Year In Review in the 8.5″ x 11″ size. I also LOVE and highly recommend the matte hardcover. It’s absolutely gorgeous.Year in Review hybrid album made with a Mixbook book bound album and personalized with traditional scrapbooking supplies

If you want to flip through the album as I ordered it you can check it out here.

To create the album, I left most of the journaling spaces blank knowing that I’d add to it later on. That also helped speed up the process of getting the book ordered. To make my life easier I stuck with photos that were imported into my iPhoto album. These photos are all ones that were on my phone at some point. Some were taken with my DSLR but were imported onto my phone for social sharing. Year in Review hybrid album made with a Mixbook book bound album and personalized with traditional scrapbooking supplies

I used stamps, alpha stickers and other little embellishments to personalize my album and get a little crafting in!

I knew I’d leave some pages as they were and just fill in where extra journaling or little notes were required.

I was going to use journaling cards but I didn’t like how thick they were so I went with just a thicker paper. Any paper I added was secured with lots of dry adhesive.Year in Review hybrid album made with a Mixbook book bound album and personalized with traditional scrapbooking supplies Year in Review hybrid album made with a Mixbook book bound album and personalized with traditional scrapbooking supplies

I used some wood embellishments but kept them to just a few as I was trying to pay attention to how thick the album got. I added little notes in my handwriting throughout the album.

I probably could have added a bit more, but I wanted to stick to my style while still telling enough of the story for people to enjoy later.

There are 6 total blank pages including the front and back inside cover if you want to add to those. You could also choose to leave some pages inside totally blank. I chose to leave my outside pages blank except for that stamp in the front and I added a little pocket to the back for loose memorabilia!

The finished album is pretty thin and doesn’t push out past the binding.

I LOVE how it turned out and can’t wait to make more using this idea. Thinking mini travel albums, definitely more year in review (I have a few years to catch up on) or maybe even albums for my family. One of the benefits to making albums this way is that you can print multiples easily! You could do a year in review and then personalize all the notes or hand journaling inside depending on who you’re going to give the album to.

Keep up with Mixbook because they often run great promotions throughout the year!

Oh and if you like to see albums “live” you can watch my flip through on this YouTube video:
