Now that we have Halloween out of the way can we jump into the fall holidays?! I’m ready to kick off lots of friend and family time and excited to put our new bar cabinet (more on this later) to work with some fun cocktail parties! We’ve been talking about how we should bring back the cocktail parties of the mid century and have people over for a party just for the heck of it and I’d love to plan some with a signature drink. This “Dark and Crabbie Holiday” cocktail is a spin on a Dark & Stormy and is what I created in partnership with Crabbie’s!
Dating back to 1801 Edinburgh, Scotland, Crabbie’s cold steeps real ginger for up to 6 weeks before blending it with 4 secret ingredients to create Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer! It is available a few places in Phoenix and they are kicking off a fun series of tasting events throughout Phoenix the week of November 7th – more info on that here!
Back to the recipe – a dark and stormy is traditionally made with dark rum and ginger beer. This “Dark & Crabbie Holiday” gives the recipe a holiday twist and of course, is better with Crabbie’s.
Start with a wedge of orange and a few cranberries. Muddle well in a tall glass.
Add 1oz of rum, 4-6 oz of Crabbie’s Original (though their Spiced Orange would be awesome too) and a few small drops of real vanilla extract (you can omit this if you don’t have real extract it just adds a bit of fun to the drink).
Mix and fill the glass with ice.
Top with cranberries and a cinnamon stick, or if you’re feeling extra festive or just love the smell, a sprig of rosemary.
It’s sort of mild, perfectly bubbly and filled with flavor at the same time. It’s a perfect holiday drink but would be super refreshing in the summer too, maybe with blueberries?!
