On Monday I revealed the fun corner of our new family room. I love this corner so much. We replaced a sectional for a sofa and chair (without really losing any seating) and ended up with a large space in the corner. The sofa is SUPER deep so the space is rather large. If you’ve shopped for side tables recently you know that there isn’t a lot of options for tables with good sized tops. I sure couldn’t find one, at least one in a price range I was willing to pay, so I decided to just utilize a cute table I found and fix it up to meet my needs.

DIY Side Table - replace the top on an existing side table to create a larger piece

This side table (on the left) that I found at Homegoods was super cute and most importantly inexpensive but at 16″ across not quite big enough for my needs. So we removed the top, painted the base a new copper color, painted a new 30″ round top and screwed it onto the base. Super easy but MUCH more usable in this space!

Plus it cures so well that I know it will hold up to use on a side table.

I wish the design on the base was a bit more substantial but you can’t really see it in the room unless you’re sitting in the chair so I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway!

Mix-and-Match family room corner for fall with accessories from Target! Now it’s much more functional and I could always add the old top back on if I need it in a smaller space (unless I end up using the top for something else).

  1. Great job on the table! I got a thing with round tables recently and looking to do some type of DIY on a large round dining table soon!
