It’s the first day of summer (it’s been summer here in Phoenix for a long time) and the pool/waterpark/beach seems to always be on our mind.

I consider myself a healthy person, always wanting to choose the best products for my family. In the past I haven’t thought much about sunscreen. I’ve never liked it (I think the sun is great in moderation – we need that Vitamin D!) but know that it is necessary for entire days spent in the sun especially when no shade is available.

My kids don’t like wearing hats + long sleeved cover ups which still leaves their legs exposed so having sunscreen is (to me) a necessary evil.

I’ve been doing some research and you would not believe the chemicals they put in sunscreen. The most alarming to me is oxybenzone (you can google it) find info about the chemicals in sunscreen from the Evironmental Working Group.

If you’re like me and care what’s in the sunscreen but don’t want to spend endless hours researching ingredients I’ve put together a list of a few of my favorites from my research in no particular order: (links are affiliate links)

Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sunscreen or their stick sunscreen (or get both for face and body)

Any of the Raw Elements sunscreens

Burn Out sunscreens look good and come highly rated

Honest sunscreen – they have other great household products as well

In a pinch (more readily available in stores like Target when I don’t have any of the above) I like:

Seventh Generation

Earth’s Best Sunscreen

Do you have a favorite safe sunscreen?

SafeMama has a great list as well!
