Stay in St. George, Utah When Visiting Zion National Park

One of the big draws to this area of Utah is Zion National Park. It’s striking landscape, incredible colors and rich history make it a popular vacation spot. It’s rich history and elevation changes make it a good choice for photographers, hikers, and families looking to get outside and explore the world. I personally LOVE a good hike & photo opp so I have many trails in the area on my list like Angels Landing, the Zion Narrows Riverside, Echo Canyon Trail, or really, any hike I can get my boots on!

Being a National Park they also have great services like the Junior Ranger program, picnic spots, shuttle services, museums, nature centers and more! It truly is a spot that should be on every family’s travel list.

St. George is a little over 40 miles from Zion making it a nice drive over for day trips. You’ll travel through the nearby city Springdale before entering this gorgeous part of the country. Stay in St. George for the lodging (or camping), dining and proximity to other adventurous areas, and visit Zion during your trip while still having access to more of what Utah has to offer.

State Parks to Visit When Staying in St. George, Utah

In addition to Zion National Park, there are actually FOUR state parks you can easily visit when staying in St. George. I haven’t started a list of state parks that we’ve been to yet (need to get on that) but what a great way to add 4 new ones to your family’s list! From St. George you can drive to Snow Canyon State Park, Quail Creek State Park, Sand Hollow State Park, and Gunlock State Park. From watersports and fishing at Gunlock, Sand Hollow, or Quail Creek State Parks to incredible hikes at Snow Canyon State Park you can get as much (or as little) into your day trip as you like.

There are so many things to do that you would never be able to do everything in one trip.

Visiting St. George in the Shoulder Season

St. George is a GREAT travel spot to consider if you love traveling in the shoulder season (or off-season). The National and State Parks are always open and gorgeous, and the city has a constant stream of great events on their calendar. The beautiful sites aren’t going anywhere and there is always great food and shopping available no matter what time of year you’re visiting.

No matter what time of year you’re able to visit, definitely take a look at St. George for your next Utah adventure!  Did I miss something? What should I add to my list to see or do in the St. George, Utah area?!
