Easing In To the Holiday Decor + DIY Modern Travel Ornament
It’s just about December and the boys are begging to get the holiday decor up around the house. I’m not in a rush because by a few weeks in I’m ready to take it all down because we’re having to clean constantly with guests in and out lol! This year I’m setting up in stages and I really wanted to find a great slim tree for my great room since this is the room we spend most of the time in. I have some space next to my TV unit and the fireplace and really wanted to be able to fit a tree there that wouldn’t overwhelm the space. Off to Wayfair I went in search of the perfect slim tree.
Choosing a Slim Christmas Tree
I measured my space and had a width in mind for my tree which seemed a little slim for the height I wanted (at least 7.5ft). Luckily Wayfair has a great selection and even has a whole section of slender trees to choose from.
I read reviews and compared prices with tree widths. I went with this Lighted Douglas Downswept Fir. It came in last week and I couldn’t wait to get it put up.
It was simple to put together, sturdy, and “fluffed up” nicely! The sizing is perfect for this little space.
Since we’re easing into the decor it was important that it looked ok without ornaments for a week or two until we all were home together to decorate it (a family tradition).
I love how sturdy it is and that I didn’t have to put lights on it. Anything to make my life easier is a bonus!
DIY Travel Ornaments
Since I haven’t gotten out the family ornaments yet I thought I’d make some new ones for our tree this year. We’ve been brainstorming about what type of travel ornaments we wanted to add and I came up with these fun wood sliced state ornaments. I’ll make one for each state we’ve been to and add the year(s) we traveled to the state on the back.
Making them couldn’t be easier. I bought pre-sliced and drilled wood slices, painted each side white, and cut out state decals with my cutting machine.
You could add state stickers, stamps, write with a permanent marker, glue a photo or a map onto one side. The options really are endless! I love wood slice ornaments because they’re easy to store too.
Are you all decorated and ready for Christmas?!
