My favorite job ever is being my boys’ mom. I absoutely love perfect strangers complimenting on my boys’ behavior (even though sometimes I’m sure I get “the look”). I swell with pride each time they bring home a “student of the month” certificate. I don’t want it to end, I don’t want to forget.

I am amazed at how quickly I’ve already forgotten frustrating sleepless nights, the feeling I get when I hear my baby cry, seeing them proudly pull up on the coffee table, spitting out their first bites of food, being amazed at their first peek of the ocean or Disneyland. That is why I take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. They might not all make it up on the blog or in a book because I am not perfect, but they are somewhere and occasionally we watch slideshows from 2002 or 2004 and home videos. (PLEASE back up your digital memories. I use Backblaze, it’s also a good idea to have other copies but do not rely on your harddrive and cd backups. CD’s can start to degrade after just 1 year)

I love how the photos spark a memory in my boys’ mind, whether it’s them remembering the story I told them the first time they saw the picture, or they are actually remembering that moment, it’s there.

That’s why I take the time to photograph, scrapbook, make a yearly photo album, blog, Facebook, AND backup.

I don’t know why I’m thinking about this so much lately but I am. As much as I wish I’d taken more video or more photos or whatever. I am so grateful for what I do have and what my kids will have to look back on.

  1. I can totally relate to what you are feeling. I have the same feeling that time passes by like sand runs in our hands! and that is why we love scrapbooking so much. love that picture of your kids! they look so absorbed in their reading!
