When my partners at Make-A-Wish® and GameStop asked if I’d help spread the word about their efforts to collect donations to help grant life-changing wishes I was immediately in. Being an early adopter of video games myself and then having 2 gamer teenaged sons, I know how excited kids can get about video games (and really, I still do).
Recently 8-year-old Mia, who has leukemia, wished for a gaming computer, and GameStop hooked her up! I love hearing about unique wishes that kids write in to Make-A-Wish and love seeing how they make these come true even more. Research shows that wishes help kids build the physical and emotional strength to fight a critical illness and get them on a path back to normalcy. And, playing video games can provide an escape for kids, like Mia, helping to reduce anxiety and stress.
How You Can Help Make-A-Wish
So how can you help? From Aug. 29 – Sep.30, GameStop will be accepting donations in all GameStop U.S. locations to support Make-A-Wish. Customers can donate in-store via the pin pad or online at gamestop.com. This year, all proceeds will be split between Make-A-Wish and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® to support local kids like Mia and make more wishes come true.
While the GameStop customer donation campaign for Make-A-Wish runs through the end of September, THIS Wednesday September 12th is National Video Games Day and GameStop will match its donation to Make-A-Wish when they hit the $10,000 mark on that day only!
We’ll be going into our local GameStop and donating on Wednesday and would LOVE to see you all drop by too!
Here are the specific ways you can donate:
- Donate at checkout. Guests can give $1 or more or round up their purchase. Plus, PowerUp Rewards members will receive triple PowerUp Rewards points on the donation amount.
- Donate PowerUp Rewards points. Members can donate points to each charity in the PowerUp Rewards Center.
- Donate Online
- Trade In for Charity. Donate up to 100 percent of trade-in value to charity when you bring unused video game hardware, software, accessories or consumer electronics to GameStop.
