I LOVE easy costumes – a nerdy punny costume is even better! I have a whole list of silly costume ideas going just in case. You never know when you’ll need a fun costume and as long as I have some basic materials on hand I can always make one pretty quickly with my Cricut Maker. For this one, I used some Infusible Ink and a Cricut t-shirt blank. It made a gorgeous tee that looked like I bought it! Have you figured it out yet? I’m Life giving you lemons! This “When Life Gives You Lemons” pun intended t-shirt costume really was fun and super simple to make.

All you really need to make this costume is some lemons and the DIY shirt. I loved the idea of one of those “my name is” nametags but the regular size is definitely hard to see so I wanted to make a statement. A DIY shirt was definitely the way to go.

DIY “My Name is Life” Shirt for When Life Gives You Lemons Costume

To make this shirt I used:

Infusible Ink is available exclusively at Michaels. You can shop online or in-store for both the transfer sheets and t-shirt blanks. I bought the women’s t-shirt and sized up a few sizes for a looser fit.

Cricut has really great instructions on their site about how to use the Infusible Ink. I follow these step by step (don’t skip the pre-heating or lint rolling). Also, don’t forget to get a Standard Grip Mat if you need a new one. I need to pick up one at the store before my next project!

Follow the instructions for cutting using your machine, don’t forget to mirror your image before cutting on the Infusible Ink sheets!

I’d also recommend using the Cricut tools to weed the thick Infusible Ink paper. Since it’s more “papery” than vinyl it can tear but the tools make it super easy.

Since this file had blank space where the name goes I didn’t need to “layer” them, I just added the letters to the larger nametag sheet and heated them both up at the same time. The biggest Easy Press 2 worked great for this larger size. It allows you to get even heat on a large area so you can have a big, bold image.

I just love how the Infusible Ink looks when it’s done. Just like you bought it but no one else will have the same one! It’s super comfortable on too because the ink is infused into the fabric – no stiffness at all. You could always add another nametag to the back of the shirt too!

DIY Life Giving You Lemons Costume

The best part of this costume? It’s just this DIY t-shirt & some lemons! I found a cute basket to hold them in, but you could have a mesh backpack, grocery store bag, or just carry around a few lemons lol! Everything else is extra. You could definitely find a fun lemon skirt, pants or other accessories, but I like to keep it easy!

Now I’m ready to make ALL the t-shirt costumes because they are seriously the best to wear.
