I love summer camp crafts. You know the ones you’d do every year at summer camp and collect in your room for years? Those are the types of crafts my boys always wanted to do with me. Simple, fun and easy to display in your room. Today I have a summer camp inspired pineapple craft for you to do with your kids (or by yourself I won’t judge) along with a Contour Sweet & Succulent Steel Rule Die giveaway!

Summer camp inspired pineapple pot with felt succulent craft!

If you’ve never used a die cutting machine before basically you purchase things that act as stencils to cut out materials (usually paper). The Spellbinders Platinum machine can cut through 40 different materials of varying thickness & cuts up to 6 layers in a single pass with their Contour Steel Rule Dies. Basically it’s awesome and no electronics needed (which is a summer camp craft must).

To make this fun pineapple craft start by painting a small ceramic pot yellow. Depending on the age of the kids you can use acrylic paint and brushes or spray paint.

While your paint is drying, work on making the cute little felt succulent. You can never kill a felt succulent so they’re my favorite kind. Felt is NOT my favorite to cut for crafting but the Spellbinders Platinum machine with the steel rule dies can cut through them like their paper. It’s crazy! I tried both soft and hard felt and I liked the harder felt better! I used the Contour Sweet & Succulent Steel Rule Die.

Basically you just sandwich everything together (depending on your dies and materials) and run them through the machine by just cranking the handle and perfectly cut pieces come out the other end.

Play with the layering and when you’re ready use some hot glue to adhere the pieces together.

When the pot is dry, add pineapple details with more paint or a brown permanent marker. The easiest one for kids is to just make diagonal lines each direction.

Now you can add your succulent to the pot if you want a potted plant look. I stuffed extra felt into the pot and glued the succulent on top.

OR you can make a little treasure box by painting a pot base and glueing the succulent to the bottom to create a lid.

Hi Allison ~ I love this sweet idea…my grandbabies would LOVE this, especially the treasure box feature! I’ve been frustrated working with felt with my current die-cutting machine because I just can’t seem to get a decent cut. This machine sounds like the perfect solution. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful week. ~HUGS~
