Whether you call them buntings or banners, the festive decor on a string is a fun way to spice up your space or gift for a party or just because. I love making buntings to wrap around gifts like a ribbon, then the recipient can use it in their home afterwards if they want!Super simple DIY leather cactus bunting

I recently became a Spellbinders Spellblogger! Which basically means I’m just going to create some fun content using Spellbinders’ awesome tools. I fell in love with their steel rule dies which can cut through TONS of different materials like denim, mat-board, wool felt, or up to 6 layers of cotton fabric at once. I wanted to start simple so you could see what their machine does and OF COURSE I had to make something with the cactus steel die.Super simple DIY leather cactus bunting Super simple DIY leather cactus bunting

Since their Platinum Die Cutting & Embossing machine can cut through leather like butter with those steel dies that’s what I went with first. Something about cactus and leather just goes together doesn’t it?!

Since the different dies have different “sandwich” requirements for different machines make sure you just check to make sure you’re layering yours the right way. Basically you stack everything up and crank the handle to push it through.

You get a PERFECT cut every time and you don’t have to plug it in to anything. Sometimes you just want to create OFF of the computer right?!

I get so excited every time I cut through something with this machine!

I love that I can stack multiple papers too so I don’t have to keep loading it and running it through. That also means that making a bunting literally takes only a few minutes!

For this one I just did two hole punches and strung some cotton twine through. So simple! I added a piece of cardstock to the back of the leather cactus to keep them nice and stiff since my leather was a little “floppy”.

  1. Hi there! I am a school teacher and my classroom is cactus themed. I LOVE the colorful patterned cactus banner you created and I was wondering if you sell them? If so, how much would you charge?
I hope to hear back from you soon!
