It’s summer! That means more sun, more pool, more boys, more dogs, more… mess. Yes in a house of boys + dogs who are constantly in and out all summer, my job of keeping the house clean steps up a notch. I have a few tricks under my sleeve for making my care routine a bit easier so I thought I’d share some tips for keeping the house clean this summer!

My favorite summertime cleaning tip is the “dog paw wash”. My dogs are (oddly enough) allergic to grass and I’ve found that cleaning their paws often helps the itchiness during prime time allergy season. Plus, they’ve been known to track in LOTS of “who knows what” on their paws. This simple tip is great for camping or rving too since they can bring in lots of extra dirt and dust on their paws, especially if you have a dog with long hair!

If you have dogs that tend to get their paws full on muddy, cut a scrubber sponge and wedge it into the bottom of the cup. Put some soap (just a small amount) and water in one cup, and just water in the other.

When it’s time to go inside put each paw in the soapy cup (scrub if needed).

This works out SO much better than a hose method because my dogs think the hose means we’re playing and will get sopping wet in no time!

  • Wash dog bed covers
  • Wash duvet cover (I love duvet covers because I can wash them at home!)
  • Wash pillow covers on sofa (extra time at home means extra time cuddling on the couch right?!)
  • Dust
  • Mop

Man, caring for your family means a lot of extra work! But seriously – I’d do 20x more for these crazies.
