Travel to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) Mexico from All for the Memories

You can read my first post here.

Seaside Reservations was great to work with and the check in was quick and easy with an office right in the entrance to the Bella Sirena. We really loved our room and the resort was just beautiful.

I wanted to answer some of your questions from the last post or on Facebook so here they are:

Q: Is it safe?
A: I guess that depends – is downtown Phoenix safe? I suppose it all depends on where you are, what you’re doing and who you’re with. Stick to main streets, shops and the resort area and yes we felt safe. Going through the border at Sonoita yes, we felt safe. Are you really “safe” anywhere? I’m not sure how to answer that one other than use the same travel (common) sense that you’d use anywhere.  We didn’t travel around at night or go to any nightclubs because this vacation was all about relaxation for us (and that’s not really my thing). We loved it!

While we were there, there was a swim up bar with drinks and food. We got drinks at the bar but didn’t order any food since we wanted to eat what we bought.

Q: Were you able to eat gluten free?

A: Yes, I don’t have a choice. Whenever we travel (internationally or not) we prefer to cook most of our meals. For one thing, it’s much easier to make 100% sure that what I’m eating is gluten free and for another my husband is a pretty awesome chef. I do love a good restaurant but it’s even more important to know that what I’m eating is safe while traveling since I do get very sick starting 20 minutes after eating any gluten and trust me, you would be surprised at where you will find gluten hiding.

If you’re not used to it, it might seem like more trouble than it’s worth but I just look at it as another way to know what I’m putting in my body and a great way to make smart choices.

On this trip we had initially planned to bring almost everything we needed with us in an ice chest but then realizing that most of what we wanted to bring we couldn’t, we decided to just buy it all there. Here’s what we did bring along though:

  • spices
  • olive oil
  • water (bottles and 2.5 gallon jugs)
  • Angry Orchard cider (my favorite)

We checked our room first to see exactly what they had in the kitchen to make sure it wouldn’t change our food preparations at all. We headed back into town to shop at Super Ley. We got veggies, fruit, eggs, meat and corn tortillas (they make them there and you can watch them and ask them what’s in it).

We had chicken and beef tacos the first night and after getting some shrimp at the fish market in town we had the best fish tacos ever the second night. I’ll have to see if the guys can give us  the recipes because they were amazing! My kids are excellent eaters and would have eaten everything we did, but you could always do quesadillas, pb&j etc for the kids if they need different meals.

Q: Would you take the boys there?

A: We did not take the boys this time because we’d never been, wanted to go with friends who had and really wanted to feel out the area before we took them. I’m sure many of you have the same feeling. There were lots of families with young kids there. I mentioned we saw several stocking up at the grocery store. So yes, the way we did it I would take the boys there.
