I was part of the Every day, care™ project from Whirlpool® as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars. #EveryDayCare

A few weeks ago I introduced you to the Every day, care™ project from Whirlpool® if you hadn’t seen it already. I love their mission to change the world by showing just how much those simple daily acts mean to the ones we love. Holidays are my favorite time of year because our family goes out of their way to spend time with each other and express their love in different ways. There’s always extra treat baking and snuggling on the couch for movie time. In our house the dogs aren’t at all excluded. They give so much to us throughout the year with out knowing it (comfort, humor, safety, peace, companionship…) that the least we can do is a few little extra acts of care around the holidays.

Acts of holiday care

We always make sure they get some extra attention since we’re usually busier during the holidays. Between school, church, parties and other seasonal events, it feels like we are constantly in and out of the house, which isn’t always fair to our furry family members. I have my boys help me out by making sure they include the dogs in their activities a bit more. Last year they were invited into the Christmas fort.

They were also given priority seating near the fireplace (their favorite spot).

We bring the dogs along on some of our holiday adventures when we can. They definitely add some laughter to our trips!

Looking back at Christmas photos from the past I can’t help but laugh at how many of them our dogs have snuck into!

Each year the boys and I also take time to pick out and make gifts for the dogs (even though they unwrap them as soon as we leave the house). We love making beds, tags, collars or treats! We bake them a batch of homemade “cookies” with different shapes each year. Here’s a recipe that’s easy and customizable with cookie cutters or ingredients!

Homemade Grain Free Dog Treats

 Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cup garbanzo (chickpea) bean flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp peanut butter (the natural kind without added sugar is best)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix ingredients together well. Roll about 1Tbsp of dough into a ball. If the dough is too sticky you can wet or oil your hands to keep it from sticking. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and flatted. Sometimes the boys make small impressions like a paw print on the top! Repeat until you’ve used up all the dough. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden. Store in an airtight container.

These would make a great hostess gift or gift for all the furry friends in your life. I hope all our little extra acts of care help the dogs know they are safe and loved this time of year!

If you haven’t checked out Whirlpool’s Every day, care project go see it now! Seemingly small things like laundry, dishes, picking up dog toys 100 times a day, or taking the time to make them cookies along with yours can end up making a big difference in the lives of the ones we love. Go check out the Every day, care™ website to learn about their mission and celebrate the little things.
